Constructed in 1914 by industrialist Thomas G. Plant and his wife Olive, the Lucknow Estate (now known as Castle in the Clouds) sits high above Lake Winnipesaukee.
The lovingly restored 1914 Mansion provides a unique backdrop for wedding ceremonies on the oval lawn, with its 180-degree views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the Ossipee Mountain range, manicured gardens, and turn-of-the-century rock pool featuring “Sprite” a bronze statue by artist Lucy Currier Richards.

Securing a wedding location that speaks to you is the highest priority of all engaged couples. Here at Castle in the Clouds, we don’t have a single wedding location, we have four that you can choose from: Gardens at Lucknow, Carriage House Terrace, Winnipesaukee Room and The Meadows.

We do not provide food-catering services for weddings. Couples can select from our three approved caterers: Harts Catering, Celebrations Catering, and Magic Food Catering. If you desire to work with a different catering company, the weddings and events manager must approve them based on licensing, insurance, and quality standards.
For tented receptions, you may replace the Winnipesaukee Room with the Meadows in any package you are interested in. There is no additional venue fee for switching to a tented reception, but all tent and rental costs are the responsibility of the couple. The tent and all items required under the tent — such as dance floors, bars, glassware, tables, and chairs — are your responsibility to rent. Our preferred tent rental companies are Lakes Region Tent and Event or Showcase Rentals.
Yes, we are wheelchair accessible. An elevator provides access to the reception hall. For those unable to board one of our trolleys to the ceremony site, we allow personal vehicles to follow a trolley. Accessible parking is also available close to the Carriage House. Accessible restrooms are also available to accommodate guests with mobility needs.
No, we do not offer overnight accommodations. However, there are several Airbnb options nearby, and hotels are approximately a 20–30 minute drive from our location.
Yes, we offer one small room on-site that can be used as a get-ready space for the wedding party. The room is equipped with mirrors, seating, and a small table. You can bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic drinks to enjoy in this space while getting ready. If the Carriage House Restaurant is open, you may place food and beverage orders through them.
Please Note: Due to the impending winter storm, and out of an abundance of caution for both our guests and staff, the Castle will be closed Saturday and Sunday (03/28-03/29/2025). Winter Lunch and Saturday’s Hike have both been cancelled. We hope to see you for lunch and a hike next weekend.
